Civil Action Project

The Civil Action Project is our most sought after program.  The Civil Action Project provides legal advocacy and employment support to help justice-impacted individuals overcome barriers to employment, housing, and other beneifts.  In partnership with LawNY of Western New York, CAP helps returning community members pursue Certificates of Rehabilitation and, when eligible, criminal record sealing.

Anyone with an arrest or conviction record and valid identification who lives in Monroe County – or is returning to Monroe County from a local jail, state or federal prison – is eligible to participate to determine available relief.

Being granted a certificate may be able to restore certain rights you lost when you were convicted.   A certificate can remove the automatic denial of employment that is required by law.

A certificate can also reduce the negative impact of having a conviction when trying to obtain employment.

A certificate is not a pardon and it DOES NOT EXPUNGE your conviction.
